BHHBA sponsors the Fall Parade of Homes. BHHBA is a non-profit trade association comprised of over 400 members associated with the building and remodeling industry. We promote homeownership, quality, affordable housing, and positive relationships between members and potential and present homeowners.

Parade of Homes Guidelines

MISSION STATEMENT: The Parade of Homes is dedicated to promoting home ownership and the promotion of local craftsmen, through the use of progressive home designs, coupled with the use of innovative products and ideas, resulting in a positive image of home builders to the community.

1. The intent of the Builder in showing a house in the Parade of Homes must be to display his best work for the price range of product entered.

2. House can be built on speculation, a model home, or a presold custom home. All houses must be newly constructed within the past year. A Builder may enter his personal home if it has been finished in the past two years, and has never been entered in a Parade.

3. All homes must be on their own titled lot and must rest on a continuous block, wood or concrete perimeter foundation. They must have a pitched or shingled roof, residential siding, and have a width of not less than 24 feet.

4. The Parade of Homes Committee reserves the right to review and/or limit the total number of houses in the Parade of Homes.

5. Each Builder will be required to pay an entry fee for each house entered. A late fee will be charged for homes register after the deadline. The entry fee and deadline dates will be determined by the Parade of Homes Committee.

6. Once a house is completed it may not be entered more than once in a Parade event.

7. Builder agrees at Builders’ expense to carry and maintain adequate liability insurance and will provide proof of insurance to the Black Hills Home Builders Association prior to the event.

8. Each Builder is requested to provide names of all suppliers and subcontractors who are providing materials or services to the homes. It is requested that the Builder give serious consideration, priority and preference to using subcontractors and suppliers who are members of the Association.

9. It is the Builder’s responsibility to have his home open and manned during official Parade hours. In the event the Builder does not have his home open during scheduled hours, the committee has the privilege of opening his home for public display without liability. Builder will be responsible to lock his home each night, but not before the official closing hours. Builders are required to represent their house.

10. Homes entered in the Fall Parade of Homes that are fully completed must include, but not limited to, installation of carpet, countertops, plumbing and lighting fixtures, interior trim work, exterior dirt work and yard grading will be categorized as complete. Those homes not complete will be designated as such in any Parade publication.

11. Homes entered in the Spring or Fall Parades shall have a shingled roof and windows installed. Builder agrees to the following safety guidelines.
a. Permanent or temporary safety rails will be placed on open sides of stairways, landings, porches and decks.
b. Access will be prevented to areas that may be unsafe or hazardous.
c. All unsafe or hazardous materials will be stored in areas not
accessible to the public.
d. All wiring and outlets accessible to the public should be turned off at the panel box or installed properly to eliminate shock hazards.
e. There must be a sidewalk or temporary walk way leading to the entry of the house.
f. There will be no construction going on during the Parade hours.
g. Homes must be sheet rocked.
h. Permanent heat must be installed and in working order.

12. Builders are encouraged to have their Parade house decorated and furnished in at least the living area. The minimum living area is interpreted to mean the living room, the dining room, family room, one bedroom (preferably the master bedroom), and kitchen.

13. The house should be of excellent exterior design appeal.

14. The Builder is encouraged to use new and innovative products.

15. The Builder agrees to remove the trash and building debris and thoroughly clean up the entire property prior to the opening day.

16. There shall be an admission charge as established by the Committee. Black Hills Home Builders Association will furnish volunteers, however, it is the Builders responsibility to furnish a table, chairs, and a restroom for the volunteers. AT NO TIME WILL PARADE HOME BE OPEN TO THE PUBLIC WITHOUT CHARGING DURING PARADE HOURS.

17. During the Parade of Homes, builders are not only representing
themselves but the Black Hills Home Builders Association as well. No inappropriate behavior (including offensive language or alcohol consumption) will be tolerated.

18. Non-compliance with Parade guidelines may result in loss of participation privileges in future Parades.

Each participating Builder will be required to sign an application and participation agreement for entry and pay their entry fee on or before the deadline.

Spring Parade of Homes
April 19th and 20th, 2008
Saturday 9 am to 5 pm
Sunday 11 am to 5 pm

Fall Parade of Homes
October 11th and 12th, 2008
Saturday 9 am to 5 pm
Sunday 11 am to 5 pm

Tickets are available for purchase at any Parade Home for $5.00. Tickets are good at all homes Saturday and Sunday. $2.00 from each ticket goes to a local charity.
