Community Impact

At the Black Hills Home Builders Community Foundation, our mission is to give back to the community that supports the home building industry. Rooted in the trades, we focus on programs and projects that support local families, empower youth, and bring care, comfort, and hope to those who need it most.

Through partnerships, volunteer efforts, and fundraising, we work every day to make a meaningful impact across the Black Hills.

The Education, Scholarship and Workforce Committee is dedicated to inspiring the next generation of builders and trades professionals. Through hands-on experiences, mentorship, and career exploration, we work to get youth excited about construction and the opportunities within the building industry.

Our programs include:
Boys & Girls Club Projects: Hands-on building activities for teens ages 13–16 that teach teamwork, problem-solving, and real-world construction skills.
NHBA Student Chapters: Supporting student chapters at local high schools and WDT, providing mentorship, education, and access to jobsites.
Scholarship Program: Awarding scholarships to students pursuing education and careers in construction and related trades, helping to remove financial barriers and invest in the next generation of builders.
RCAS Collaboration: Partnering with Rapid City Area Schools to connect students with industry professionals, panels, and career exploration events.

Our fundraising initiatives allow the Foundation to bring care, support, and hope to families and communities across the Black Hills. Signature events like the Pub Crawl provide crucial assistance to families devastated by medical tragedies, offering financial support and resources when they need it most. The Golf Tournament combines fun and community engagement while raising funds for our programs, and additional events like Builder Auctions, raffles, and other community fundraisers give supporters multiple ways to make an impact. Every event we put on helps the Black Hills Home Builders Community Foundation continue its mission of strengthening families, supporting youth, and improving our community.

The Foundation’s Care Projects bring tangible help and hope to families and the broader community. These projects focus on making a real difference for those who are genuinely in need — whether it’s helping a family repair a deck, remodeling a community building, or improving local facilities. Past projects have included updating bathrooms at a local softball field, moving a house to a new foundation, and many other initiatives that strengthen neighborhoods and support families.

If your family or community organization is in need, you can apply for a Care Project
